There’s a great American, a country singer (real country) named Aaron Tippen, who wrote a song titled “You’ve Got to Stand for Something or You’ll Fall for Anything”… the song was about his dad. He wrote it around 1991 I think… here’s the chorus:
“He’d say you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything,
You’ve got to be your own man not a puppet on a string,
Never compromise what’s right and uphold your family name,
You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.”
That one chorus sums up why I will never give up on America. The strength of this country lies in the common man, the average Joe, the guy that the liberal intellectuals think they need to take care of, regulate, control, and manipulate for his own good because his not capable or smart enough.
S. Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A, states as one of his steps to successful business: “I was not so committed to financial success that I was willing to abandon my principles and priorities.” This is the kind of man that I respect. I wish more politicians were able to maintain their perspective and beliefs like this.
There’s a lot of us average Joe’s, who will stop by Chick-fil-A a little more often these days. Not because we hate homosexuals, neither do the owners of Chick-fil-A by the way, but because we believe in the freedom to make a stand, to stand for something, and to never compromise.
Neither will the Boy Scouts of America. As a former Life Scout, and father of a Cub Scout, towing the line on allowing homosexuals in the BSA is something I appreciate. The Boy Scouts do not hate gays, or even condone hating or acting out against anyone. “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.” Update 2015, the BSA has caved on this, and it looks like they’ll cave completely before too much longer.
The founders of Chick-fil-A and the Boy Scouts stand for something. Something greater than the political correctness flavor of the month, something greater than the dollar, something greater than political power, something greater than sexual orientation: they stand for principals that this country was founded upon. Even the atheists involved in the founding of this country recognized that the teachings of the Bible represented something valuable, something worthwhile.
So just to make it clear to the misinformed and misconstrued reading this, the Boy Scouts of America, nor the owners of Chick-fil-A hate gays… they don’t shoot ’em, stab ’em, stone ’em, or even condone, suggest, or encourage being mean to them. There’s not a “Hater” Merit Badge. Chick-fil-A will gladly serve you a chicken sandwich and/or give you job (if you’re qualified) no matter your race, creed, or sexual preference.
Here’s the thing; most Christians are more tolerant, loving, and charitable, than any liberal. There are other religions (Islam) that are not tolerant or loving… they’ll show you how to beat your wife so it doesn’t show, how to wrap her up properly before being publicly stoned to death, kill their daughters for dating a non-Muslim, and they clearly state that homosexuality is a sin punishable by death. Liberals bend over backwards to welcome them into our country, and our cities. Yet these same liberals say Chick-fil-A cannot open a restaurant in their city and must be boycotted because of the hate and intolerance they spew. Makes no sense does it? Nope, none at all.
Math that doesn’t add up, and believe me, the average Joe, gets it.
This November, we, as Christians, must do more than pray, we must vote to put in office people who will stand up for this country and our values.
Until next time,
